Renewal proposal for Luiz Hadad (surfer)
Trying to impersonate the Wavehead NFT I was gifted when joined gnars :)
Intro; Highlights from sponsorship term and travel grant; Defining Success for shredders on Gnars season 2; Content production; Community Building & Public Goods; Measurable Objectives; Use of funds: 6.200 USDC for 6 months + 1k USDC for Public Goods; Total 7.200 USDC
Aloha guys, I am Luiz Hadad, brazilian, 34 years old, have been collaborating with Gnars as a Surfer since September 2022. I became a member of the #pod-community in 2023 and I've been helping build our community into extreme water sports. I also got a Gnarly travel grant in July to go to Indonesia.
I joined the crypto world in 2017, and since then I've been working as a community builder in different projects, such as Cambiatus and Muda. I founded SurfHive and participate as a partner and advisor at Surfguru, Play4Change and Kanna.
Lucas Rocha (@lrocha94), Myself, Mari (@marinioac), Gibson (@3rdeye_crypto) and Vlad (@xvlad) at the Gnars Session during Ethereum Rio 2023.
Surfguru is Brazil's biggest online surfing community and forecast website, with 300k unique users and 2.5M visits per month. I co-lead the web3 movement there with @marinioac and @crisciacm. In 2022 we launched SurfHive, a community inspired by SkateHive (special thanks to Vlad and the SkateHive crew) and Surflimpo, a social currency that incentivize people taking care of the oceans and participating in beach cleanups.
We approved a prop with Gnars to create educational content, help onboard surfers that can be NFT holders or shredders and raise awareness about Gnars.
Gnars and Surfguru are projects that converge web3 and surfing - two of my biggest passions - as you can see on my Thats Gnarly page.
During this past year, I believe I represented Gnars in and out of the water, as an athlete and a community builder.
I did a sponsorship report from my first 6-months term, and created plenty of content from the trip to Indonesia, most of it posted on X, instagram and Thats Gnarly, including the the mintable IndoGnars shortmovie which was a deliverable from the Travel Grant.
I'd love to keep collaborating with Gnars as a sponsored surfer and a member of the #pod-community, with community building activities.
Here goes few highlights from the sponsorship term and the travel grant :
The IndoGNARS movie has minting available until August 2024 and 30% goes back to Gnars treasury
During 2023 I was fortunate to receive invitations to speak at the major conferences in Brazil, and even a online conference from Peru. At every conference I was using Gnarly merch and mentioned Gnars in my speech. - NFT Brasil at the panel NFTs and the Future of Sports with my fellow Gnars shredder Vlad (June 2023);
- ESX (Espirito Santo Innovation Experience) at the panel about How to enhance brands with web3 (June 2023);
- Organized 2 beach cleanups (June and October 2023), engaging the surfing community around it - In June it was World Oceans Day and we got some TV coverage.
- Representing Gnars at the Rio Blockchain Conference (September 2023): I was the ReFi content curator and hosted couple panels - one of them with Bob Burnquist, Taynaah Reis, Ana Leme and Vinicius Rocha.
Participated actively on building the Shredders Journey
Participated on the prop 382 aka "Bring a million shredders onchain" as a reviewer and at the Notable Contributions section
- Creating partnerships that bring benefits for Gnars holders:
- [Surfguru](https://surfguru.com.br/) - 1 year subscription for all Gnars holders with +2 NFTs and 90 days subscription for all holders.
- [We Believe Hub](https://webelieve.com.br/) gnars holders can work there 2x a week for free
I believe Gnarly Partnerships are a way in which people can be incentivized to purchase their Gnar NFT (at least in Brazil), and I'll work to develop this area during the next 6 months.
I will love to continue as a Gnars surfer and community builder. On Gnars season two (2023-2024), I think that a Sponsored Shredder must collaborate on at least three key areas:
i) Produce gnarly content;
ii) Lead community building efforts such as: hosting events/meetups, onboarding new members, help building tools, create partnerships that will benefit DAO members, and represent the DAO everywhere you go.
iii) Create/collaborate on proposals focused on public goods, both on Gnars and Nouns. In my case, I'll focus on beach regeneration, organizing beach cleanups, creating educational signs with noggles on it and take care of couple beaches in Brazil
iv) As I got more familiar with the Nouns Ecosystem, and with the candidate proposals possibility, I'd like to create bigger props for Nouns. If that happens, I commit give back 10% of the raised funds to Gnars DAO treasury, as @gami's suggestion in March 2023
As a Gnars sponsored surfer, I will continue to create content using:
Gnars logo at the top of my board and jetski, along with Surfguru as my major sponsors;
Noggles on my web2 and web3 profile names ââš-âš (They're already on my instagram and twitter)
Wearing Gnars gear (hats, shirts, glasses, POAP) when going to surf, web3 & tech events, interviews;
Gnars as my PFP on twitter, discord and telegram;
On the web3 content side I can try to post at least once a month a blog post on SurfHive and every two weeks submit a photo or video on That's Gnarly.
Over 6 months (26 weeks), that would mean:
I will contribute with 30% of my earnings on SurfHive and That's Gnarly to Gnars. Gnars is already my default beneficiary on my SurfHive posts.
Regarding web2 content, my deliverables will be:
One web2 surfing post per week (minimum) on Instagram mentioning and tagging Gnars, Nounish and That's Gnarly; That equals 26 posts.

I believe every Gnars community member should try to add value to the DAO as much as they can. With the additional funding from Nouns, Shredders that are asking for sponsorship should also propose community building initiatives that can add value to the DAO, along with content from their shredding life.
On the community building side, I will:
Actively onboard new members with online content and IRL events
Foster partnerships that can bring benefits to Gnars holders. As an extreme sports club, I believe that the more benefits we bring to members, more people will be willing to purchase a Gnar.
On the Public goods aspects, my initial focus will be on beach park refurbishments.
My hypothesis is that if we combine the creation of educational signs with beach cleanups and a good communications plan, involving social media posts, after movies, conference presentations and press releases, we can become a study case of how NFTS (Nouns/Gnars) are causing positive impact on the ground.
The educational signs on the beach parks and beach entrances can be for surfers something similar to what skating obstacles are for skaters.
I'll ask for a separate budget of 1k USDC, to invest on conserving two different beaches: Praia da Costa, Vila Velha (where I live) and RegĂȘncia, Linhares (my second home) both places have amazing waves and a engaged surfing communities. I believe this could be a way to create a #positive-sum movement.
I will be talking to local authorities and get permissions to place signs. Then we will select local artists and create nounish art raising environmental awareness to preserve the beach, then use it as educational signs. We will place it at the beach entrances (RegĂȘncia and Praia da Costa, both in Espirito Santo - my home state).
After that we will be doing beach cleanups, educating the community that goes to the beach and finding ways to distribute tools to preserve our beaches (portable ashtrays & recycled plastic bags, that can be held by Lifesavers and they can distribute it at the beach, for example).
All the signs and tools that we create will have noggles on it ââš-âš
I am in conversations with the Leader of the Lifesavers in Praia da Costa, and the President of RegĂȘncia Surfing Association, they both loved the idea, but they still need to be onboarded and understand a bit more about us.
November & December 2023:
Espirito Santo and Rio de Janeiro: Surfing slabs at home, doing oceanic fishing and eventually chasing swells in Rio or somewhere down south.
January until March 2024:
April & May 2024:
**i) Onboarding new supporters/bidders; ii) Onboarding surfers and content creators (photographers, video makers, etc); iii) New mints on That's Gnarly; iv) New content posted on SurfHive; v) New proposals that I will make to Nouns will have 10% back to Gnars; vi) Feedback Loop: As we're learning and iterating, I will be open to receive community feedback and make necessary adjusments to any strategy outlined in the proposal.
**i) Onboard 100 supporters, surfers or content creators in 6 months (Gnars or that's gnarly); ii) Bring at least 33 people to each Gnarly meetup - telling our story to at least 100 people IRL; iii) Propose and pass at least one prop on Nouns giving back 10% of the funds to Gnars until May 2024; iv) Test the Public Goods Hypothesis by experimenting it on two beaches in Brazil; v) Analyze how much revenue can be generated to Gnars from mintable content on a Bull Market context;
My ask for the renewal proposal is 6.2k USDC for 6 months. This is the equivalent of 0.5 ETH per month with Ethereum prices at around 2k usd.
I would also like to have 1k USDC of resources to invest on Beach Park Refurbishments, and test this hypotesis. If goes well, I could do another prop to take care of other spots.
My plan is to use the Budget as it follows:
Travel costs / Content creation: 4.2k
500 USD - Plane Ticket for Noronha 600 USD - Electric bike rental ($10 per day for 60 days) 600 USD - Video makers/photographers for gnarly content 250 USD - Boards, stickers and gnarly merch 750 USD - Food for 60 days 1.5k USD - Accommodation for 60 days in Fernando de Noronha (around $750 per month)
Gnars Community Building: 2k
1.5k organizing 3 meetups ($500 each for refreshments and venue costs)
500 USD - Plane tickets, food and accommodation for Ethereum Rio in April 2024
Total Sponsorship: $6.200
Public Goods: Beach Park Refurbishments
$500 - Educational Signs (artists & materials) $100 - Portable ashtrays $100 - Custom made recyclable plastic bags $300 - Refreshments and photos/after movie
Total: $1.000
Total Sponsorship + Public Goods = $7.200 USDC
I'd love to gather feedback from this prop, since it has new combinations and it brings a triple bottom line definition of what success looks like for a sponsored shredder: creating gnarly onchain content, community building initiatives and supporting public goods.
Thanks to Mari, Vlad, Gami, Ben, Satori, Davin, KnowHow, 3rd Eye, Akva, Will, Rickyday, Nico and all the community for the amazing feedback and support! Let's keep shredding!
Mahalo!
